I plan to aim my interactive map at two different types of target user. The first is children in education. I will be targeting both genders equally, and my general age demographic will be younger children, from ages 3-12. The other target users will be these children's parents, with a fairly wide age range of roughly 25-60 years old. Similarly, both genders will be targeted equally, as I believe that the concept of the interactive map does not have a specific appeal to one gender. I have chosen to target these users because, in a meeting with the Avalon Marshes team, they told us that they thought their website targeted middle aged people who already had an interest in the marshes. They wanted to draw in an audience of people who were willing to learn more about the history of the area, and therefore, we decided to target young learners. By targeting their parents as well, we felt it would enable parents to sit with their children while viewing the interactive map and help them explore it. We also felt that it would be easy to create a map that had a powerful visual appeal for children, and yet put interesting tidbits of information into the map that adults might also appreciate.
